As you know our home was severely damaged by the December 4, 2007 flood. This is the third such damage and loss that has hit this property. As a real world exampleof the losses, CitiMortgage is holding the SBA loan granted in 1997 for the 1996 flood losses which we are still repaying.

Rather than continue to endure similar losses in the future, we have decided that we want to mitigate against future flood events by implementing two major changes.

First: abandon, as living space, the first floor of the residence.

Second: Replace the lost living space with an elevated addition to the second floor

These changes would effectively elevate the home above the base flood elevation and future flood losses.

The purpose of this letter is to notify you of our intentions and to ask those who administer insurance and/or SBA claims and benefits to allow those real estate and structure benefits to be directed to flood mitigation instead of flood repair.

We intend to apply, through our local jurisdiction, for FEMA consideration in the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), as well as Increased Cost of Compliance (ICC) grants, and for consideration by SBA for an increase in our SBA loan to cover the cost of mitigation.

It will take us time to get design estimates, plans, engineering reports, construction estimates and final cost estimates. During this time we would appreciate your consideration and cooperation. If you have special reports or filings which we need to do, please let us know and we will do everything we can to meet your requirements in a timely manner.
